Tutorials: Tuesday and Friday after school until 4:15 or by appointment. Grading: Content Engagement (participation) 20% Content Understanding (formative assessment) 40% Content Mastery (summative assessment) 40% Supplies & Daily Materials: Everyday you must bring the following supplies to class: * A binder, loose-leaf paper, and graph paper for Calculus and Geometry * A spiral notebook for Math College Prep * Mechanical pencils Textbook: Geometry students will not be assigned a textbook. Calculus and Math College Prep students will use an electronic textbook which will be provided to them. Calculator: It is recommended that all students obtain a graphing calculator for use on homework. TI-89s and TI-Nspires will be used in class. If a calculator cannot be obtained, it is recommended you take advantage of http://www.desmos.com for graphing needs. Homework: Homework for Calculus will be assigned most days and for Geometry on some days. Solutions for homework assignments will be provided and video explanations can be provided through YouTube as requested. Expect a minimum of 2-3 hours of homework per week for Pre-AP Geometry and 4-6 hours of homework per week for AP Calculus. Completed homework assignments should reflect a level of pride in your work. Messy, incomplete, or unprofessional work may not be accepted. Late work: Late work will be accepted only up until the next test over that material. Twenty points will be deducted. No late work will be accepted after you have been tested on it. Absence Policy: If you are absent please make an effort to obtain missing work by accessing the class web site, by corresponding with your peers, or by e-mailing me. District policy mandates that you take care of missing work within one class day after you return. Assessment Policy: Performance is assessed and posted to gradebook on a daily basis. Assignments will be graded on completion, work shown, following directions, correct answers, well-communicated solutions, and thorough explanations. Assessments will be timed to prepare for the AP Calculus, SAT, ACT, and TSI exams. Corrections Policy: Students who receive less than a 70% on an assignment will have 2 attempts to redo the assignment for a higher grade. Each attempt will have a window of 5 days in which it will need to be completed. It is strongly recommended the student review mistakes with the teacher before attempting the assignment again. Formative and summative assessments must be redone within the classroom under teacher supervision, with the exception of homework assignments. |
